Miami- Out and About- Inspirations
"Well, if we didn’t completely adore Miami before, we certainly do now. Fantastic restaurants, chichi boutiques, beaches galore…what’s not to love? Still basking in the memory of our recent Miami launch party, we’ve kicked off our sandals and decided to stay awhile. Fortunately, our new favorite South Florida destination has been nothing but charming and hospitable.”

It’s hard to grasp the scope and size of this atlas, but watching three men wrangle it onto a cart really gave me a better understanding! Truly an impressive and gorgeous assembly of art and knowledge.

From the BBC:

The Klencke Atlas […] was made for Charles II to mark his restoration in 1660. But whilst being one of the British Libraries most important items, it is also one of its most fragile so hardly ever opened. This is a unique opportunity to see inside this enormous and lavish work, and see the world through the eyes of a King.

February 21, 1808: The Russian army invaded Finland, despite not having declared war on the Kingdom of Sweden. The war was over by the end of March, leaving Finland an autonomous Grand Duchy in the Russian Empire until 1917.

There were actually several Finnish mapiversaries to choose between today. It was a toss-up between the beginning of the Finnish War, the 1245 resignation of the first known Bishop of Finland, or the 1914 birth and interestingly-timed 1999 death of Finnish ace pilot Ilmari Juutilainen.

Either way, quite a day for the Finnish.
